CBC Lite (cbc.ca/lite) has multiple features to help users find relevant content to them.
By design, CBC Lite is low bandwidth focused, bringing primarily text-based content to users trying to save data usage.
Landing Pages
You can view landing pages displaying lists of content, for example cbc.ca/lite/news to view the "News" landing page. You can view all the available landing pages on our sections page at cbc.ca/lite/sitemap.
Sorting
On landing pages, you can sort by multiple options. These just change how the list of stories is ordered. You can read more about sorting options in this FAQ article here.
Stories, Images, and More Stories Like This
From landing pages you can view stories. These stories are rendered with only the text content, and images are provided with a "Load Image" button, allowing you to load a low quality version of the image. Videos and other embedded media are also provided with external links should users wish to view them as well. At the bottom of story pages is a "More Stories Like This" feature, which calculates up to five similar stories as the one being read to be displayed. You can read more about how this More Stories Like This feature works in this FAQ article here.
Random
For users looking for a bit of variety, we also offer a Random page (cbc.ca/lite/random), which takes users to a random story page from the last 30 days. You can read this FAQ article on how random works here.
Live Radio One Stations
We also have Live Radio one stations available to listen to, locked at the lowest bitrate stream available. You can see the list of all stations at cbc.ca/lite/radio/live-radio, or get to the page via "Live Radio" on the sections page. You can read more about Live Radio options in the FAQ article here.
Weather
You can get weather information for your detected or entered location at the weather page (cbc.ca/lite/weather). You can read more about our weather feature on our FAQ here.
Search
Lastly we offer a search page at cbc.ca/lite/search. This will return content sorted by newest first for the entered search terms. You can read more about our search feature on this FAQ page here.
